Stand Your Ground! FIW / AWI Scenario booklet

Stand Your Ground! FIW / AWI Battle Rules

Finally! We are now ready to release our first scenario book for 'Stand Your Ground'. It is called 'The Last Few Yards' and it contains twelve scenarios from the French and Indian War and the American War of Independence time period. The games have been thoroughly play tested and range from the very small (a few dozen figures) to the very large (10 x 6 foot table and several hundred troops). Click here for more information or here to purchase the new book!

Little Wars has come and gone now. As mentioned before, we ran two games on Friday where we brought out the new scenario booklet to sell as well. The games were both different as were the players who participated. Special kudos go out to Mike P. for bringing along his cavalry for us to use and abuse. How did they do? In the first game, not so well, but in the second... well, you'll just have to click here to find out!

I now have permission to use Danielle's (a.k.a. The Black Widow) very nice mega-pixel something or other camera that holds about 600 images at a spy satellite resolution. While I might have some clue of what that means, I do know that it takes great pictures. Yes, life is good. Provided I don't break or lose the camera. If that happens, I'll need to check into Iceland's immigration policies.

We have also started yet another campaign. Campaigns are not for everyone, but I love them! The thrills of victory, the agony of realizing your best general is nowhere near your current fight! The last campaign we ran was the French and Indian war last year, where I managed to lose New France once again. We fought the good fight and even conned one more game out of Les Anglais, but it was all for naught.

This time, it is the American Revolution or War for Independence (depending on which side of the pond you are on). Right off the bat, we decided that there would be no named characters from history. WHAT! T'is true and here's why. When gamers or players who know history game with their favorite leaders, they tend to try and emulate them in history. They also tend to become outrageously bummed if said leader plays "catch the shiny musket ball" and keels over from blunt trauma. So no names equals someone else's chance to stand up and make history and it eliminates our built in prejudices against those who may have come before us. We also said that British battalions could strip off their two flank companies to form Light and Grenadier battalions. Once this was decided, Kevin and D model took the Colonial upstarts while Cooper and I stood proud for the Crown.

As I have been a sloth for several "ahem" months, we've already played several campaign games and are currently in the middle of 1776! Here's a recap of what has happened so far. First off, Cooper and I decided to do a historical maneuver and pull out of Boston. We were surrounded and roughly equal with the continentals. But instead of going to Halifax as Howe did historically, we went to New York. Our first battle occurred at New Haven and you can read about that here, but the year ended with both sides roughly setting up to begin the next year and pretty equal on points.

In 1776, the King flooded us with regiments and I promptly sent many to Canada and the rest to New York. The wily continentals ignored Canada (sigh, don't we all...unless it pertains to prescription meds!) and looked to bar our way north. As the year opened, we drove south towards Maryland and Virginia while the forces in Canada went towards Upper New York. This triggered our second battle, which was initiated by the Americans who looked to take advantage of our garrisons. To see how that went, click here!

One last battle report! Tom and I got together last Saturday to kick the tires on the new release of Warhammer 40K 5th edition. As you'll find out, I used to play 40K many moons ago, but due to circumstances, got out of it. Now Tom and I were back and willing to try it again. How did it play? What was it like? Click here and find out!

Lastly, I have switched the type to something called Verdana over the old Times New Roman. Apparently Verdana was created specifically as a font for the web. Its supposed to improve readability. Times New Roman is more of a print font so all of the newer pages will be in Verdana for the moment. It definitely looks larger and it does seem more clear, so we'll see how it goes or what people think.

Game Two!

Not content with playing just one 40K game this month, we ran another this last Saturday. Why not? The game is pretty fun plus we wanted to introduce Uncle Kevin to the carnage! Tom and him squared off and as any who have seen it will attest to, the gloves come off when these two game. Cover your eyes if you're squeamish!
